In a sad era when liberals continue to demonize police officers, who bust their tails to protect us 24/7, there seems to be a tragic, continued trend of police officers being shot and killed by emboldened criminals.
That was evidenced once again, according to the Washington Examiner, as Officer Michael Chandler, 29, a member of the Big Stone Gap Police Department, was shot during a local welfare check.
During what should have been a fairly uneventful check-up, the suspect immediately opened fire on Chandler when he arrived, and immediately fled the scene. Chandler was transported to Johnson City Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A Wise County Sheriff’s Office deputy, first on the scene after the shooting, discovered Chandler’s body in a nearby ditch next to the residence.
The police chief of Big Stone Gap Police Department issued a statement on the passing of Officer Chandler, expressing his condolences for the young man’s family and touting his record of service in his local area.
“Mike’s loss will be felt by our town and across all of Wise County,” a statement from Police Chief Stephen Hamm read.
The chief added: “Not only did he serve as an officer with the Town of Big Stone Gap Police Department, but also as a volunteer with the Big Stone Gap Fire Department. Please keep his family in your prayers tonight, as this should have been a day to celebrate his 29th birthday — not a day to mourn his passing.”
The 33-year-old suspect who allegedly shot and killed Chandler was located over the weekend at a motel in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was arrested without incident, and it was reported that he had several warrants for his arrest in several states.
Unfortunately, as long as American police officers are demonized by leftists, these types of shootings will continue to occur.
