Tulsi Gabbard slams Biden, Harris on southern border crisis

In a stinging rebuke of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Democrat former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii took to social media to suggest that the current administration bears the blame for the ongoing crises at the nation’s southern border, as the Washington Examiner reported.

Speaking about the president and vice president on Twitter, Gabbard declared “the humanitarian and national security crisis on the southern border is the direct result of your open-border policy.”

Detailing the dangers of the manner in which the new administration has administered the nation’s immigration laws, Gabbard continued, “The Biden/Harris open-door policy has been a disaster. It needs to end now. The main beneficiaries of open borders are the gangs, cartels, and human traffickers.”

In a comment sure to enrage D.C. legislators from her own party, the former lawmaker added, “The Trump policy of having people wait on the other side of the border worked and needs to be reinstated,” referencing the former president’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, which the Biden administration suspended upon taking office, but which the United States Supreme Court recently ruled must be reinstated.

The critique from Gabbard comes after months of criticism of the administration’s handling of an unprecedented surge of Central American migrants as well as the more recent influx of thousands of arrivals, primarily from Haiti, most of whom were living in squalor near a bridge in Del Rio, Texas.

Though the Biden administration had pledged to begin immediate mass deportations of the Haitian migrants, the Associated Press this week revealed that large numbers of those individuals were actually being released into the United States, apparently giving lie to promises made by the White House to commence expulsions.

As the Daily Wire noted, Gabbard is far from the only prominent figure who has underscored the grave national security and humanitarian dangers posed by Biden’s unwillingness to enforce the law at the southern border.

Former Border Patrol head Rodney Scott – effectively ousted by Biden earlier this year – warned lawmakers that the current administration is “laser-focused on expediting the flow of migrants into the U.S. and downplaying the significant vulnerability this creates for terrorist, narcotics smugglers, human traffickers, and even hostile nations to gain access to our homeland.”

With a recent Pew Research poll indicating that 56% of voters distrust Biden when it comes to making “wise” immigration policy decisions and with Harris continuing to dodge the issue like the political kryptonite that – for her – it surely is, Americans are only left to wonder just how much worse things might actually be allowed to get.
