In response to a trove of recently released emails involving Dr. Anthony Fauci, Fox News host Tucker Carlson indicated his belief that the infectious disease expert and liberal media darling ought to be the subject of a far-reaching criminal probe, as the Washington Examiner reports.
During his Wednesday evening broadcast, Carlson spoke in detail about revelations gleaned from a cache of Fauci’s emails produced pursuant to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, messages the conservative commentator suggests show a concerted effort to downplay the theory that COVID-19 originated in a Chinese laboratory.
Emphasizing the fact that certain parts of email communications between Fauci and Peter Daszak – a scientist involved with directing federal funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology – feature significant redactions – and that the reason cited for those omissions references is a FOIA exception for materials “compiled for law enforcement purposes,” Carlson speculated about the possibility that criminal probes are indeed underway.
“Are Peter Daszak and Tony Fauci under criminal investigation? We can only hope they are. They certainly deserve it. At this point, we can’t say for sure. We do know that Fauci hasn’t simply lied about the origins of COVID, pretending to know things he could not know. He has also lied about vaccines in key ways,” Carlson opined.
Suggesting that Fauci’s emails are a “mother lode” of incriminating evidence, Carlson maintained that the esteemed doctor misled, and perhaps outright lied under oath on a number of occasions, particularly regarding “gain of function” research in Wuhan designed to enhance the transmissibility and virulence of specified pathogens.
According to Carlson, the emails “show that from the beginning, Tony Fauci was worried that the public might conclude COVID had originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Now, why would Tony Fauci be concerned that Americans would conclude that? Possibly because Tony Fauci knew perfectly well that he had funded gain of function experiences at that very same laboratory.”
Blasting Fauci, who since the start of the pandemic has been virtually deified by the left, Carlson stated, “We’re Americans, so we assumed the man in charge of protecting the U.S. from COVID must be rational and impressive. We also assumed he must be honest, but we were wrong. It soon became clear that Tony Fauci was just another sleazy federal bureaucrat, deeply political, and often dishonest.”
Carlson is certainly not alone in his belief that Fauci’s email communications have yielded information of serious implication, as former President Donald Trump released a statement last week saying, “Now everyone, even the so-called ‘enemy’ are beginning to say that President Trump was right about the China Virus coming from the Wuhan Lab,” adding:
The correspondence between Dr. Fauci and China speaks too loudly for anyone to ignore. China should pay Ten Trillion Dollars to America, and the World, for the death and destruction they have caused!
In a separate communication, Trump took aim more specifically at Fauci, saying, “After seeing the emails, our Country is fortunate I didn’t do what Dr. Fauci wanted me to do,” referencing the doctor’s shifting stance on masks, travel restrictions, and vaccine production, adding, “There are a lot of questions that must be answered by Dr. Fauci.” Undoubtedly, millions of frustrated Americans agree.
