Singer Ricky Martin faces sexual assault charges, could spend life in prison

Award-winning Latin pop icon Ricky Martin, who was wildly popular in the late 90s and early 2000s, is facing the potential of spending the rest of his life in a prison cell.

According to The Daily Wire, a family member, reportedly the singer’s nephew, 21-year-old Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, filed domestic violence charges against Martin. The charges were filed in Puerto Rico, where Sanchez resides.

The outlet noted: “Under Puerto Rican law, the penalties for sexual crimes are more severe if the victim is a family member. The criminal complaint against Martin was filed anonymously under a law that protects victims of domestic abuse, according to the report.”

Martin, according to the New York Post, has strongly denied what he described as “disgusting” allegations leveled against him. His attorney, Marty Singer, issued a statement about the nephew and the person who reportedly made the disturbing allegations, though to be someone Martin datesd.

“Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges. Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew,” Singer said.

Singer added: “The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

Martin, himself, issued a statement concerning the situation through his Twitter account. In the statement, Martin strongly denies the allegations, and insists that he’ll be vindicated throughout the legal process.
