Ron DeSantis accompanies wife to cancer treatment amid liberals’ ‘vacation’ claims

Amid wild accusations about his whereabouts from high-profile Democrats in Congress and in the media, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis revealed that during the week after Christmas, he was not in fact away on vacation, but instead, accompanying his wife to treatment for the cancer with which she was diagnosed in October, as Fox News reports.

With COVID-19 cases rising across the country, Florida included, Gov. DeSantis recently began receiving questions and criticism from a number of individuals on the left for what they described as his irresponsible disappearance from public view.

Orange County, Florida Mayor Jerry Demings (D) opined that residents in the state “should be outraged” by the governor’s perceived lack of visibility or engagement during the spike in positive case numbers, imploring them to ask, “Where’s our governor?”

Far-left New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D), perhaps stinging over public revelations that she was availing herself of the Sunshine State’s notable freedom from COVID rules during a cocktail-fueled holiday jaunt south, tweeted her erroneous take that the governor has been “inexplicably missing for like 2 weeks.”

Never one to miss out on an opportunity to make a fool of herself, MSNBC’s Joy Reid got on the bandwagon as well, writing, “A governor, not governing during a crisis; and sunning his belly on vacation instead. @GovRonDeSantis is the Nero of Ted Cruzes,” referring to an ill-advised vacation taken by the GOP senator from Texas last year during a crisis in his home state.

The truth about DeSantis’ schedule, as it turns out, is that he spent Dec. 29 accompanying his wife, Casey, to cancer treatment, and spent the next day participating in a series of meetings that were plainly listed on his official daily schedule, which was published by the governor’s press secretary, Christina Pushaw.

It was announced back in the fall that Florida’s first lady and mother of three young children had been diagnosed with breast cancer, a time when the governor vowed that she would “not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across the state,” a pledge he personally appeared to be fulfilling during the time period at issue.

Luckily, it did not take long for Ocasio-Cortez’s particularly egregious insensitivity to be put on blast by the Twitterverse, with one user declaring, “AOC is a dirtbag” and demanding that the “immediately apologize to the DeSantis family.”

Commentator Benny Johnson offered perhaps the most effective takedown of the liberal from the Bronx, noting that “Gov. Ron DeSantis has a wife fighting aggressive breast cancer and 3 small children that he is caring for. His youngest is 1 year-old. You sip a martini in a red state he runs as your blue district collapses under your garbage policies. Sit down, Queen Marxist Antoinette.”
