Report: Pelosi booted from Progressive Caucus meeting amid infrastructure talks

A report in The Uprising on Thursday indicated that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was unceremoniously booted from a meeting of the progressive caucus within the Democrat Party, amid contentious negotiations over infrastructure legislation, though it was not long before conflicting accounts of what happened began to emerge.

According to the account in The Uprising, multiple unnamed sources revealed that Pelosi had indeed been “kicked out” of the gathering of far-left lawmakers by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), chairwoman of the Progressive Caucus.

A Democratic staffer who spoke to the outlet on condition of anonymity stated, “She got kicked out and said she was leaving anyway.”

While representatives for both the speaker and Jayapal failed to respond to comment requests, reports claimed that Pelosi walked into the meeting room only to emerge roughly 10 minutes later, refusing to engage with reporters on her way out, as video footage confirms. WATCH:

Soon after the abrupt departure was said to have occurred, however, Democrats began to rally around the speaker and deny that any scenario took place in which Pelosi was asked to leave the meeting. Drew Hammill, chief of staff for the California Democrat declared, “This is false. The Speaker dropped by the [Congress ional Progressive Caucus] to listen but had to leave for an event honoring former Rep. Nita Lowey at the Library of Congress.”

According to the Daily Mail, Hammill also took aim at The Uprising for failing to speak to Pelosi herself about the supposed incident, saying, “You didn’t contact anyone in our comms office. I checked. Also, I was in this meeting. She wasn’t kicked out. She left to honor her friend.”

The outlet added that Chris Evans of Jayapal’s office added that there was “zero truth to” the story, and Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA) bolstered Hammill’s account, saying, “Confirming Drew is correct here. Wish everyone would practice basic factual hygiene before posting stuff like this.”

Despite all of the denials from the Democrats, considering the heated infighting between the so-called moderate and progressive wings of the party that has again caused massive spending bills critical to President Joe Biden’s agenda to stall yet again in Congress, a scene such as the one described in The Uprising does not seem so terribly far-fetched.
