In the wake of her controversial decision to continue requiring even vaccinated members to wear masks in the House chamber, despite Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance to the contrary, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was caught without a face covering in close quarters with others at a White House event on Thursday, as the Daily Wire reports.
Earlier this month, Pelosi announced that masks would remain mandatory in certain areas of the House portion of the Capitol complex, sparking incredulity and outrage from colleagues, as the Washington Examiner noted at the time.
During her Thursday press conference, the speaker explained her belief that masks should still be worn, given that it is impossible to determine who has been vaccinated, and who has not, seemingly casting blame on Republican lawmakers who have not taken the COVID-19 jab.
In explaining her decision to not lift the mask mandate just yet, Pelosi said, “We have to wait for them to be vaccinated, because they are selfishly a dangerment [sic] to other people, including staff people here.”
She continued, arguing that her decision is “about science and governance,” and that it is her job to ensure that the House does not become a “Petri dish” due to the “selfishness of some not to be vaccinated or to wear a mask,” the Daily Wire added.
Even so, Pelosi herself was spotted at the White House that same day for a bill signing, happily chatting with other unmasked people while standing just inches apart. Watch:

Though Pelosi remains obstinate on the mask mandate for her fellow House members, that is not to say that all of her colleagues are willing to comply. A number of Republicans this week flouted the speaker’s rules, risking a stern warning letter and a $500 fine that has already been imposed on several GOP lawmakers, according to The Hill.
While her position as speaker permits Pelosi to impose whatever nonsensical, science-flouting regulations she desires in the House chamber, her own public appearance – unmasked – at the White House on Thursday just reinforces the rank hypocrisy that characterizes virtually everything she does.
