Pelosi, delegation of US Democrats make surprise ‘secret’ trip to Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who continues to plead for more money and military equipment from the West in Ukraine’s efforts to fend off the Russian invaders, had quite the surprise over the weekend.

According to Fox News, a delegation of American Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), dropped in for a “surprise” visit to Ukraine over the weekend and met with the Ukrainian president for “several hours” to discuss the latest developments, and to reassure Ukraine that the U.S. stands behind it.

Pelosi’s office made the most of the trip, as critics say it was nothing more than a prime photo opportunity for Democrats as the 2022 midterms approach.

“We are visiting you to say thank you for your fight for freedom,” Pelosi said during a meeting with Ukrainian officials, NBC News reported. “Your fight is a fight for everyone, and so our commitment is to be there for you until the fight is done.”

Pelosi’s surprise visit marks the second U.S. delegation to travel to Ukraine in as many weeks. Last week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin dropped in for a visit with the Ukrainian president to assure him of extended U.S. assistance down the road in the form of money and military equipment.

Pelosi was widely criticized for taking the trip, as many pointed out that she apparently has no problem traveling 5000 miles back and forth to Eastern Europe, but can’t find the time to address the crisis at the southern U.S. border, which actually affects American life, unlike the war in Ukraine.

One thing’s for sure: you can count on seeing the footage of the Democrats involved in the trip in future campaign ads.
