MSNBC analyst predicts DOJ is vying to hit Trump with charges

There’s no doubt that President Joe Biden’s ultimate goal is to eventually hamstring former President Donald Trump with charges related to Jan. 6, if anything, to do whatever it takes to keep Trump from running for a second term — a team he’s likely to win — in 2024.

Glenn Kirschner, an MSNBC legal analyst, said that the arrest of former Trump adviser Peter Navarro was proof that the Justice Department has its sights set on the big prize. He claimed Trump is the “ultimate target.”

“According to New York Times reporting that they’re requesting information about Trump’s lawyers, Giuliani, John Eastman, Jenna Ellis and others. Is this again part of the same thing with Navarro? And again, do you believe that Donald Trump is one of the targets of this?” host Dean Obeidallah asked Kirschner.

“Yeah. So clearly I think Donald Trump is the ultimate target. And it seems to me that there are a couple of things going on. It seems to me that what DOJ is now doing is working its way up the criminal food chain,” the MSNBC legal analyst responded.

He added: “They continue to go after, prosecute and convict Donald Trump’s footsoldiers of the insurrection that he told to go attack the Capitol and stop the steal. And they obeyed those commands from their commander in chief.”

“The timing of it, I think, is really interesting and maybe even a little telling, Dean. Because all of a sudden, DOJ does a couple of things.”

Over the weekend, news broke that indicated two top former Trump advisers, Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino, will not be pursued by the DOJ on contempt of Congress charges referred by the Jan. 6 House committee, Politico reported.

However, powerful Democrats seemingly won’t stop until they get to the top of the food chain. Only time will tell if they manage to make it that far.
