MS-13 gang members charged in brutal slaying of New York woman

Though much attention in recent months has been focused on the deteriorating conditions in which unaccompanied minors are being held at the southern border, a horrifying crime committed far to the north offers a stark reminder of the unacceptable dangers illegal immigration continues to pose across the entire country.

According to Breitbart, charges have been filed in New York against three MS-13 gang members who are accused of killing a 31-year-old mother, again shining a spotlight on the catastrophic consequences of the open borders and sanctuary city policies championed by the Biden administration and Democrats.

Now facing charges of murder, evidence tampering, criminal possession of a weapon, and concealment of a corpse are Rigel Yohairo, 20, Allan Lopez, 22, and Jose Sarmiento, 21. The men are believed to be responsible for the death of Nazareth Tamer-Claure, who died due to injuries sustained while being beaten with a baseball bat and slashed with machetes, according to the Daily Mail. A fourth suspect in the incident, MS-13 member Rodolfo Lopez, has also been charged with evidence tampering and concealment of a corpse.

The Daily Mail reported that police discovered the victim’s body after making a traffic stop of a car traveling toward the border between Queens and Long Island on Wednesday. Officers had spotted a large object being placed in the trunk of a vehicle, subsequently followed the car’s path, and pulled the driver over on the Nassau Expressway.

Tamer-Claure’s death came roughly a week after she secured a protective order against her boyfriend, 28-year-old MS-13 gang member Anander Henriquez, who had just been accused of attempting to choke her on April 9. According to the New York Daily News, Henriquez has not yet been formally implicated in the murder of Tamer-Claure, but he has been arrested on charges stemming from the choking incident.

The relationship between the victim and Henriquez had reportedly been a troubled one for quite some time, with another order of protection being filed against the latter back in November. Despite that fact, he was subsequently charged with assaulting Tamer-Claure on Jan. 17, punching her and hitting her in the head with a metal rod, as the Daily News reported.

According to Breitbart, the three men charged in Tamer-Claure’s death, Rodolfo Lopez, and Henriquez himself are all in the custody of police, and all five have been placed under Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers. As such, a request is currently in place for officials in New York to turn the men over to federal authorities if they are released for any reason.

Unfortunately, given New York’s far-reaching sanctuary state policies, it is unlikely that local law enforcement would even comply with such a federal request, a scenario which routinely results in illegal immigrants with pending criminal charges being released back into society, rather than deported, as Breitbart noted.

As long as the Biden administration continues turning a blind eye to the inherent dangers of unfettered illegal immigration and permits the proliferation of sanctuary policies that protect criminals instead of victims, tragic stories such as this one are certain to be repeated again and again.
