The massive manhunt for Brian Laundrie, the boyfriend of Gabby Petito, who was found deceased last month, took yet another twist over the weekend.
According to the New York Post, a Florida man who happened to be hiking the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina reported that he has “no doubt” that he encountered Laundrie on Saturday morning, adding that it appeared as if Laundrie was in some kind of distress and asking for directions to California.
“There is no doubt in my mind I spoke to Brian Laundrie — none whatsoever,” Dennis Davis said, adding that he was even more sure after listening to a recording of Laundrie’s voice sent to him by Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman.
“Dog the Bounty Hunter’s daughter sent me an audio file of Brian’s voice and the voice was the same I heard,” Davis, an engineer, said.
Davis described the man he believes was Laundrie as “wigged out,” and recalled his brief conversation with him.
“He said, ‘Man, I’m lost.’ I said, ‘What are you trying to find?’ and he said, ‘Me and my girlfriend got in a fight but she called me, told me she loves me, and I have to get to California to see her,'” Davis said.
Meanwhile, Petito’s mother and father took to social media to draw more awareness to the matter, boosting the hashtag “#JusticeForGabby,” adding in her tweet, “Mama bear is getting angry! Turn yourself in!,” which was clearly directed at Laundrie, given the new evidence that he’s still alive and on the run.
Notably, Davis, who believes he encountered Laundrie on Saturday morning, reported that several calls to law enforcement and even the FBI had not yet been returned at the time of the report.
If Davis’ account is truthful and accurate, which will certainly be determined after all of the press coverage, it could be, by far, the strongest lead yet in the continue search for Laundrie, who many believe murdered his girlfriend.
