In the wake of controversial remarks made about Dr. Anthony Fauci during a broadcast on Fox News, network mainstay Lara Logan has been conspicuously missing from on-air appearances, leading to increased speculation that she may be on the verge of being effectively fired, as Mediaite reports.
The controversy started last week when Logan made a comparison between the chief White House medical adviser and an infamous Nazi-era doctor known for gruesome treatment of prisoners at the Auschwitz concentration camp, as The Hill noted.
Logan said during an appearance on Fox News Primetime, “What you see on Dr. Fauci, this is what people say to me, that he doesn’t represent science to them. He represents Josef Mengele … the Nazi doctor who did experiments on Jews during the Second World War and in the concentration camps.”
“The level of suffering that has been created because of this disease is now being seen in the cold light of day, i.e. the truth, and people see there is no justification for what is being done,” Logan continued.
In response, Fauci took aim at Logan’s employer, saying, as Newsweek reported, “What I find striking is how she gets no discipline whatsoever from the Fox network. How they can let her say that with no comment and no disciplinary action. I’m astounded by that,.
Fauci went on to characterize Logan’s commentary as “preposterous,” “unconscionable,” and “an insult to all of the people who suffered and died under the Nazi regime in the concentration camps.”
As Mediaite further noted, Logan’s recent status as missing-in-action from Fox News programming prompted Oliver Darcy of CNN to wonder in the Reliable Sources newsletter, “Has Lara Logan been quietly benched by [the network]?”
Darcy went on to note that “Fox isn’t commenting on the matter, but prior to that Monday appearance, Logan was a mainstay on the network. Now she has disappeared,” something that appears quite true, given that in the week prior to the flap over Fauci, she appeared on Fox & Friends, The Faulkner Focus and on the Fox Nation Patriot Awards program in the role of a presenter.
Logan has also made regular appearances on Fox News Primetime, The Five, and America’s Newsroom, among other network offerings, and given her history of providing hard-hitting, insightful commentary to millions of viewers each week, her absence is surely being acutely felt and will be most regrettable to many if it indeed becomes permanent.
