Vice President Kamala Harris’ niece, Meena Harris, was already a headache for President Joe Biden’s administration, thanks to her aggressive entrepreneurial spirit that included piggy-backing off of her aunt’s newfound position of power to boost her personal brand of clothing and a published book.
According to MSN, the younger Harris family member made headlines last week after she dipped her toes into the world of foreign policy, taking a decisive stance defending Palestinians in the ongoing conflict between the Hamas terror group and Israel, saying she “stands in solidarity” with the Palestinians.
In an Instagram post to her 808,000 followers, Meena Harris posted an image that expressed support for Palestine, which argues that one can’t say they’re for protecting human rights without supporting Palestinians at this time.
“One cannot advocate for racial equality, LGBT and women’s rights, condemn corrupt & abusive regimes and other injustices yet choose to ignore the Palestinian oppression,” the image stated. “It does not add up. You cannot pick & choose whose human rights matter more.”
While the image was likely one that she came across and shared, Meena Harris made clear in the image’s caption about where she stands on the conflict, making crystal clear that she is not a fan of Israel.
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. I stand in solidarity with the Palestinian residents of Sheikh Jarrah,” the 36-year-old Harris wrote.
Meena Harris’ support for Palestine differs greatly from the surprising support that her aunt and the administration expressed recently after speaking with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with the vice president recently pledging an “unwavering commitment to Israel’s security.”
Between the vice president’s statement and Biden admitting that Israel had the right to defend itself from Hamas’ barrage of rocket attacks on major Israeli cities, Meena Harris seems to be in total alignment with the progressive wing of the Democratic party, like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who have recently publicly disagreed with Biden’s stance on the conflict.
While Meena Harris is certainly free to take a stand and have an opinion on the issue, publicly taking an opposite stance on the matter as her aunt undoubtedly sends mixed messages to Vice President Harris’ supporters.
