Despite being fully on-board with imposing all sorts of draconian restrictions and edicts on others during the coronavirus pandemic, Vice President Kamala Harris has defiantly declined to quarantine after it emerged that several Texas Democrats with whom she met last week have since tested positive for the illness, as Breitbart reports.
Harris visited with a number of lawmakers from the Lone Star State who fled to Washington, D.C. last week in an attempt to thwart the passage of election integrity legislation, and five individuals from that delegation have since turned up positive for COVID-19, as Reuters noted.
Even so, as The Hill reported on Sunday, Harris and her staff have decided that they will neither quarantine nor submit to coronavirus testing, asserting that they were never in close contact with any of those who ultimately received positive test results.
Symone Sanders, chief spokesperson and senior advisor to Harris issued a statement on Saturday, saying, “On Tuesday, July 13th, Vice President Harris met with members of the Texas state legislature who are temporarily in Washington, D.C.. Earlier today it was brought to our attention that two of the members at that meeting tested positive for COVID-19.”
“Based on the timeline of these positive tests, it was determined the Vice President and her staff present at the meeting were not at risk of exposure because they were not in close contact with those who tested positive and therefore do not need to be tested or quarantined. The Vice President and her staff are fully vaccinated,” the statement continued.
In response to Harris’ decision to sidestep the sorts of protocols required of Americans throughout the pandemic, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted a link to a news story outlining the arguably questionable move and commented sarcastically, “Because Science!!”
Though Harris’ camp seemed determined to communicate an air of extreme confidence about the vice president’s health status, reports emerged Sunday that she was headed to what was described as a “routine doctor’s appointment “ at Maryland’s Walter Reed Medical Center.
Contemporaneously with her unusually-timed visit to the medical facility, Harris herself curiously tweeted, “This Delta variant is no joke. Get vaccinated.”
According to Fox News, Harris’ office was asked whether the vice president was exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms that precipitated that visit, but no response was forthcoming. Perhaps only time will tell whether, in hindsight, testing and quarantine might have been a good idea after all.
