Judicial Watch president claims Obama admin was aware of efforts to derail Trump in 2016

As Democrats continue to muddy former President Donald Trump’s name well ahead of the 2024 presidential election using various tactics like the Jan. 6 House Select Committee, it’s important to remember that some of the most powerful players in politics once tried to keep him out of office, and failed.

Of course, that would be the infamous Trump-Russia collusion hoax and allegations leveled by Trump and others that former President Barack Obama, along with then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, were well aware of the extraordinary efforts to prevent Trump from winning the 2016 presidential election.

Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, was one of the leading investigators into what he and others labeled #SpyGate. In a 2019 interview with The Epoch Times, Fitton revealed how many political powerhouses, both in the United States and even abroad, had colluded to keep Trump from taking the White House.

“We have to understand, the Justice Department and the FBI has kind of been the key areas people are worried about in terms of the agencies, but you have the NSA involved, you obviously have the CIA involved, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Defense Department had a big contract with Stefan Halper, who was the spy used to target the Trump campaign,” Fitton said during the interview.

He added: “It was all-hands-on-deck from the Obama administration in terms of going after Trump.”

Fast-forwarding to the present, Special Counsel John Durham, who was tasked with getting to the bottom of the Russian collusion hoax by former Attorney General Bill Barr, has netted a pair of perjury charges against players allegedly involved in the grand scheme of taking down Trump.

However, Durham has often been criticized by supporters of the 45th president for not landing any big fish, such as former FBI head James Comey or any of the heavy-hitters that were likely calling the plays at the time. Durham has also been publicly called out by Trump for his seeming lack of progress over the past few years.

Some say the wait could be worth the reward, especially as the 2024 election draws near. Should Durham successfully nail any A-list operatives before then, which would certainly vindicate Trump’s many claims of foul play, the playing field would certainly look a lot different. Only time will tell.
