John Madden passes away “unexpectedly” at age of 85

Legendary broadcaster and Super Bowl-winning coach John Madden passed away at the age of 85 on Tuesday. However, it turns out that despite Madden’s advanced age, his passing was sudden and unexpected.

So far, the cause of his death has remained out of public knowledge as the family grieves. In the meantime, the sports world has reacted to Madden’s passing with an outpouring of support and reflection on a lost legend.

Madden was a one-of-a-kind figure in the National Football League and as such he will be receiving special recognition during the Week 17 football games.

A memo from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was sent out to all home teams asking them to hold a moment of silence to recognize Madden’s passing.

Outside of that, there are likely other plans being drawn up by the NFL to honor Madden’s legendary game-changing career.

The memo from Commissioner Goodell also included a league-approved message from the NFL that reads, “Ladies and gentleman, earlier this week the NFL family lost a Hall of Fame coach, broadcaster and friend with the passing of John Madden. At this time, please stand and join in a moment of silent reflection in memory of John Madden, who had an indelible impact on football, the NFL and generations of fans.”
