Chalk up a victory for the fine men and women who make up the ranks of the U.S. military, as it was reported that a high-profile terrorist was recently dispatched via the use of an MQ-9 Reaper drone.
According to The Hill, senior al-Qaeda leader Abdul Hamid al-Matar targeted and killed via U.S. military drone strike on Friday, marking the first significant terrorist kill since President Joe Biden’s foreign policy debacle in Afghanistan over the summer.
U.S. Army Maj. John Rigsbee, a spokesperson for the U.S. Central Command, released a statement on the developing situation, noting that there were no civilian casualties as a result of the drone strike, which was a much-needed development after the drone strike that killed several Afghan children earlier this year.
“A U.S. airstrike today in northwest Syria killed senior al-Qaeda leader Abdul Hamid al-Matar. We have no indications of civilian casualties as a result of the strike, which was conducted using an MQ-9 aircraft,” the statement read.
The statement went on to express the dangers still posed by al-Qaeda in Syria, as the terrorist organization attempts to rebuild after suffering massive losses during the Trump administration.
“Al-Qaeda continues to present a threat to America and our allies. Al-Qaeda uses Syria as a safe haven to rebuild, coordinate with external affiliates, and plan external operations. Al-Qaeda also uses Syria as a base for threats reaching into Syria, Iraq and beyond,” Rigsbee’s statement continued.
He added: “The removal of this al-Qaeda senior leader will disrupt the terrorist organization’s ability to further plot and carry out global attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians.”
Interestingly, the attack came just days after a report from The Washington Post that said American forces in Syria had been targeted, though there were no reported U.S. troop casualties as a result. It was also noted that it remains unclear whether or not al-Qaeda operatives were behind the attack.
It’s critically important that Biden’s Pentagon follows in the same footsteps as former President Donald Trump and targets as many terrorist leaders as possible, as with the death of each one, the world becomes just a little bit safer.
