Following the Jan. 6 Capitol unrest, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her colleagues passed a new rule that resulted in enhanced security measures at the Capitol complex, including the installation of magnetometers that everyone, including House members, is required to pass through.
According to the Daily Caller, several Republican members recently released footage of Pelosi reportedly being seen bypassing the metal detectors in early February, which is only a big deal given that several GOP congressmen have been hit with massive fines for doing the same thing. Pelosi, however, was never fined.
Rs have new security video of Pelosi on 2/4 they plan to argue shows she entered Speakers Lobby to get onto House floor, claiming bc she didnt do metal detectors she skipped security protocol.

The footage was sent to Politico by Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) this week, however, in February, a number of GOP members, including Reps. Rodney Davis (R-IL), Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), and Bryan Steil (R-WI) penned a joint letter to the sergeant at arms with a demand that Pelosi is fined $5,000 like everyone else who has been caught breaking her new rules.
“I saw the video of Speaker Pelosi avoiding her own security screening procedures from Feb 4. I personally witnessed her doing so that morning. The video proves what our letter said back in February. It’s disappointing she has failed to hold herself to the same standards as others,” Davis said of the video footage, according to Politico.
Not unexpectedly, the video footage of Pelosi was criticized by her chief of staff, Drew Hammill, who insisted that Pelosi was scanned with a wand by a member of the security team, which he claims is obvious in the video footage. He went on to slam some of the Republicans demanding that Pelosi be fined.
“What this video proves is that Congressman Rodney Davis is both the most desperate man in Washington and completely unfamiliar with the layout of the U.S. Capitol,” Hammill said while adding that C-SPAN footage can confirm that it’s not unusual for Pelosi to enter the House floor through the Speaker’s lobby after she’s scanned with a wand.
“While we appreciate the Congressman’s latest, failed attempt at relevance, we do hope that he will consider a tour of the U.S. Capitol when pandemic protocols allow so that he may better familiarize himself with this temple of our Democracy,” Hammill continued.
It remains to be seen whether or not Pelosi will be subject to any fines if she did, in fact, bypass the magnetometers. It wouldn’t be the first time over the past year that she’s bypassed the very rules she’s publicly supported, especially with concern to maintaining her hair.
