Gleycy Correia Miss Brazil 2018 dead at 27 due to complications from surgery

Former Miss United Continents Brazil of 2018 has died at the age of 27 following months in a coma due to complications of surgery.

According to a report by Fox News, Correia died at a private clinic Monday following surgery to remove her tonsils which led to heavy bleeding and eventually a heart attack on April 4.

Her family priest, Lidiane Alves Oliviera, announced the news on Instagram saying, “Gleycy underwent surgery to remove her tonsils and was soon released by the doctor.”

“5 days after the procedure, Gleycy had a hemorrhage and had to return to Unimed Costa do Sol hospital. Due to hemorrhage, she had a cardio respiratory arrest, doctors were able to perform the resuscitation procedure, however, the exams showed neurological damage and she remained in a coma for 75 days. In the last 3 days of life, Gleycy had a kidney failure and died on the last Monday.”

The Forensic Medicine Institute of Macae will conduct an autopsy on her body, according to the Daily Mail.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss. She was an amazing woman and much loved by everyone,” she told Fox News Digital.

“Gleycy actively participated in social projects in our local church, especially when were social projects for children. In addition, she had her own social project to reconstruct the areolas of the breasts of women affected by cancer. It won’t be easy to live without her smile and shine. We’re still getting used to the idea of not having her around.”

Correia had a career as a beautician. The contestant who used permanent makeup frequently posted pictures of her creations on social media.

Since April 4, Correia’s family has taken control of her Instagram page and has posted footage of prayer vigils held in her honor.
