Fox News hot mic catches Kevin McCarthy slamming Liz Cheney

The battle between House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) went to a whole new level this week after a hot mic moment during a Fox News interview was released.

According to Mediaite, McCarthy, who was prepping for an interview with Fox News host Steve Doocy on Tuesday morning, expressed his true feelings about Cheney’s future in the party, admitting that he’s “had it with her” while suggesting that a motion to oust her from her number three GOP leadership position was all but guaranteed.

Prior to his segment on “Fox & Friends,” McCarthy could be heard telling Doocy what appeared to be his private thoughts on the escalating situation with Cheney, who has drawn increased fire from many in the GOP over the past several weeks, given her desire to split the party from the influence of former President Donald Trump.

“I think she’s got real problems,” he told Doocy. “I’ve had it with — I’ve had it with her. You know, I’ve lost confidence.”

Presumably asked about his feelings on whether or not Cheney’s leadership position is in jeopardy and if a vote would be called to oust her, McCarthy can be heard replying, “Well, someone just has to bring a motion, but I assume that will probably take place.”

The hot mic moment was stunning because even though it’s not a secret that McCarthy and Cheney seem to be two opposing forces within the ranks of the Republican party, McCarthy has kept his personal opinion on the matter mostly silent.

Rumors have swirled around Washington D.C. for weeks that Cheney’s future as a GOP leader was at stake, but given McCarthy’s revelations on Tuesday morning before his interview, it looks like it’s all but a done deal.

Only time will tell how Cheney’s GOP colleagues will vote if a motion to strip her of leadership is conducted, but most recent reports indicate that she’s likely on her way out, which would be a devastating blow to her future in politics.
