Former top Trump aide: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could give Trump ‘a run for his money’ in 2024

Could former wrestler-turned-A-list actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson be a viable candidate for president?

According to former acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, Johnson could give former President Donald Trump “a run for his money.”

Speaking with Politico on Tuesday, the former Trump aide discussed possible 2024 presidential contenders who might have a shot at beating Trump.

“[Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis could give him a run for his money. [South Carolina Sen.] Tim Scott can give him a run for his money. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson could give him a run for his money,” Mulvaney said.

So is there actually a chance that Johnson could run?

Rumors have been circulating for years that he might be interested in making a White House bid.

“I’ll be honest, I haven’t ruled politics out,” Johnson told GQ in 2016. “I’m not being coy when I say that, but at the moment I am not sure. I can’t deny that the thought of being governor, the thought of being president, is alluring. And beyond that, it would be an opportunity to make a real impact on people’s lives on a global scale.”

Then in 2017, Johnson signaled that a political career could be “a real possibility.”

Fast-forward to 2021, and Johnson said he would think about running for president if he thought that was what the public wanted.

“I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted,” he told USA Today. “Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people.”

“So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground.”

A new show that Johnson stars in also teases a possible political future.

“Johnson’s new autobiographical TV series Young Rock also alludes to a future presidential bid. Each episode of the NBC sitcom opens and closes with mock interviews in which he’s campaigning for office in 2032,” according to Mediaite.
