House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is being accused of furthering doubt in the COVID-19 vaccine as a way to manage coronavirus with her House mask mandates, according to The Daily Caller.
The accusation was brought by Retired Adm. Brett Giroir who is a former member of the White House coronavirus task force. Giroir said on Wednesday’s edition of Fox News’ “The Story” that masks still being required on the floor of the House is “pure political theater” and “not based in science.”
“If you’ve been fully vaccinated, it’s safe for you to be unmasked and very importantly it’s safe for other people even if they haven’t been vaccinated to be around you unmasked,” Girior said.
“You are protected and you’re safe around others,” the former White House official went on, confirming what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) announced just days ago with their updated guidance on masking.
According to the CDC, everyone who is fully vaccinated should be considered safe to go unmasked while indoors, something that many Republicans saw as a huge relief.
“It’s actually sending the wrong message to Americans again. We should be inspiring confidence in the vaccine, and what Americans are seeing is the Biden administration is talking the talk but the speaker of the house is not walking the walk,” the former White House COVID-19 testing czar said.
“I think this is dangerous to public health and needs to be fixed,” Giroir said when pondered the possible side effects of Pelosi’s mask rule.
House Republicans have been standing against the mask order, going so far as to send a letter to Pelosi demanding that she allow the lower house of Congress to return to normal.
“Speaker Pelosi, In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance released on May 13, 2021 we urge you to immediately return to normal voting procedures and end mandatory mask requirements in the House of Representatives,” the Thursday letter signed by 30 represnetitaves read.
