Florida posts lowest per capita COVID-19 case rates in country

In his efforts to impose draconian COVID-19 mitigation measures on the populace, President Joe Biden has often singled out Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for particular scorn over his resistance to such tactics, but according to new data, the Sunshine State is now posting the best results in the country when it comes to battling the virus, as Fox News reports.

DeSantis has long stood strong against the severe COVID-19 restrictions and mandates popular among his Democrat counterparts across the nation, a fact which has sparked something of an ongoing battle of words between himself and the White House.

Just this summer, Biden appeared to take aim directly at DeSantis and GOP Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for banning school mask mandates and opposing compulsory vaccines, among other actions designed to maintain freedom among their states’ residents, stating, “I say to these governors: please help, but you aren’t going to help at least get out of the way,” as ABC News noted at the time.

However, despite Biden’s attempts – aided and abetted by his allies in the mainstream media – to portray DeSantis as a reckless failure in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in his state, Florida now reports the lowest per capita number of coronavirus cases in the country, with a daily average of 1,393 cases, or six per 100,000 residents, in itself a decrease over the prior two weeks, as Tampa Bay Fox affiliate WTVT noted.

Notably, despite the left’s insistence that DeSantis’ approach to the pandemic was the misguided and irresponsible one, Democrat-controlled states which instituted the strictest mitigation protocols in the past are now the ones experiencing the worse surges in case rates, as Fox news further reported.

Michigan, for example, now leads the entire nation in per capita daily cases, with state medical leaders recently requesting Defense Deparment assistance with emergency hospital staffing, something which was indeed granted, given the severity of the problems facing the state, according to the Washington Post.

Liberal-run New York is also in the midst of grown in coronavirus infections, with a daily case average of 6,666, a figure that translates to 34 infections per 100,000 residents, a level far exceeding that of Florida.

Speaking about Florida’s current status as the state with the lowest case rate in the nation, Christina Pushaw, press secretary for that state’s executive, stated, “It just shows once again the success of Governor DeSantis’ science based and data based policies,” adding, “He’s always made decisions based on the data and that continued even during the Delta surge this summer… .”

Biden’s decision to pick a fight with DeSantis over issues on which his administration has made nothing but wrong turns was a characteristically foolish one, and while it would be nice if the White House would learn a thing or two from Florida’s experience, odds are that the president will simply double down on prior failures and needlessly prolong the country’s suffering.
