DirecTV announces it will drop conservative-friendly One America News Network from lineup

One America News Network (OANN) quickly rose to popularity in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election as it featured a number of hosts and commentators who were friendly to former President Donald Trump.

But unfortunately, the network can add itself to the list of conservative, Trump-aligned news outlets that aren’t powerful enough to escape the wrath of corporate liberal censorship, as according to Mediaite, DirecTV announced this week that they’ll be permanently dropping the conservative news network.

“DirecTV, one of the largest U.S. pay-TV providers, plans to drop One America News Network, dealing a major blow to the conservative channel that’s been criticized for spreading misinformation and had a loyal fan in former President Donald Trump,” Bloomberg’s Gerry Smith reported Friday.

Smith added: “The satellite-TV provider has notified OAN’s owner, Herring Networks Inc., that it plans to stop carrying the company’s two channels when their contract expires.”

Now, the question on the minds of many: Is OANN the first cable news victim of the woke, anti-Trump leftist corporate overlords who control such information? It’s not unreasonable to ask at this point if a network like Newsmax — or perhaps even cable news giant Fox News — could be next on the chopping block.

The satellite TV provider issued a bland statement concerning the nixing of the network, simply stating that it doesn’t desire to renew its contract.

“We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires,” the DirecTV statement read. OANN will officially disappear from the provider’s lineup sometime in April, the report noted.

Weirdly enough, OANN was originally founded by Robert Herring Sr after AT&T, the corporate giant that owned DirecTV before it was spun off, told Herring Sr. that it wanted an alternative conservative-leaning network in addition to Fox News. So, Herring Sr. said, he built OANN from the ground up.

While it’s not clear — nor will it likely ever be — that OANN was dropped for its ultra-conservative bent, the situation is not unlike conservatives being censored and banned from Facebook and Twitter. It’s a disturbing practice that congressional Republicans need to step in and stop before it gets even worse out there.
