Declining numbers of voters, including Dems, want Biden to seek re-election

Though President Joe Biden has indicated his willingness to run for re-election in 2024, health permitting, it appears that interest in that prospect is dropping precipitously not just among the electorate in general, but also among members of his own party, as the Daily Caller reports.

According to a recent Associated Press-NORC poll, a mere 28% of respondents indicated their desire for Biden to seek a second term in the White House, with that number rising to just 48% among those who identified as Democrats.

Perhaps driving these sentiments are growing concerns about Biden’s current capacity to carry out the duties of his office, not to mention how those abilities may fade even further by the time 2024 rolls around and he reaches 81 years of age.

That proposition appears to have been confirmed by the aforementioned AP-NORC poll, as just 28% of participants felt “very” or “extremely” confident in Biden’s “mental capability to serve as president,” with a mere 25% expressing their belief that he is “healthy enough to serve effectively as president.”

With his approval ratings in freefall across a number of other recent polls, including a Trafalgar Group survey that put his current number at a dismal 38.7% and the AP-NORC study pegging approval at 43%, Biden attempted to start putting things on better footing with the American people during a press conference last week – though things did not turn out according to plan.

Amid a series of alarming misstatements, meandering answers, temper flares, and mental misfires throughout the event, instead of reclaiming lost confidence, Biden actually planted seeds of doubt in some who have previously been his loudest cheerleaders, a trend that appears to be gaining pace of late.

Even far-left CNN commentator Van Jones couldn’t help but lament Biden’s increasingly apparent weaknesses, saying, “You could be a foggy, meandering president – say like Reagan near the end – if you’re winning. But if you’re foggy and meandering on key questions, and you’re also not winning, then you’ve got a real problem,” as Fox News reported.

Liberal flamethrower Joe Scarborough of MSNBC was particularly critical of Biden’s bungling of questions related to Russian aggression toward Ukraine, saying, “It was a terrible moment in the press conference when he talked about a minor incursion There is no minor incursion. Putin and Xi and our NATO allies are not debating that right now. They see Joe Biden as weak.”

With voters themselves already expressing unease with the notion of another Biden candidacy and the president rapidly losing the support of the compliant media who helped put him in office the first time, the Democrats have no choice to own up to the tragic error of the choices they made in the run-up to the 2020 race, but whether they can recover in time for 2024, only time will tell.
