Chinese scientists discussed weaponizing viruses, according to doc obtained by State Dept

Since the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, many, including former President Donald Trump, have blamed China for the spread of the virus around the world. Some have even suggested that the virus has more nefarious origins.

According to the Daily Wire, in recent reporting by The Weekend Australian, the U.S. State Department reportedly received a report which indicated that Chinese scientists have discussed the weaponization of various SARS coronaviruses.

It should be noted that the report was careful to state that there’s currently no proof that COVID-19 was intentionally released on the world as a form of biological weapon or as a result of those otherwise alarming discussions.

“The document, written by People’s Liberation Army scientists and senior Chinese public health officials in 2015, was obtained by the US State Department as it conducted an investigation into the origins of COVID-19,” the Australian outlet reported.

“The paper describes SARS coronaviruses as heralding a ‘new era of genetic weapons’ and says they can be ‘artificially manipulated into an emerging human disease virus, then weaponized and unleashed in a way never seen before,'” the report added.

There have been a number of high-profile officials who have called for further investigations into the origins of COVID-19, specifically dialing in on whether or not the one Biosafety Level-4 lab (BSL-4) in China, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, was responsible for the accidental release of the highly-contagious virus.

As recently as April, a group of international scientists and other experts have called for an expanded investigation into the origins of COVID-19, given that a recent study involving China yielded nothing useful in determining the root cause, according to Reuters.

The recent document reportedly obtained by the State Department which suggested Chinese scientists have held discussions about weaponizing those types of viruses was authenticated by digital forensics expert Robert Pottinger, one of the leaders in his field.

Given the toll that COVID-19 has taken on the United States and the rest of the world in a relatively short amount of time, it’s frightening to think that there exists even a remote possibility that it could have been unleashed intentionally, or that future virus outbreaks could be weaponized by anyone.
