Britt McHenry to leave Fox News as part of sexual harassment settlement

Former Fox News personality Britt McHenry is permanently departing the network amid a settlement – and voluntary dismissal – of a lawsuit she filed in late 2019 against her employer and her one-time co-host George “Tyrus” Murdoch, as The Hill reports.

Citing a story in USA Today, The Hill noted that McHenry had accused Murdoch, a current Fox News regular, of repeated displays of “volatile and unpredictable” behavior, which allegedly included sending explicit, unsolicited text messages.

The two shared hosting duties on Fox Nation streaming show UN-PC from December of 2018 until February of 2019, and according to Mediaite, McHenry took her allegations to network management that same year, with a Fox News spokesperson subsequently saying, “this situation was independently investigated and we consider the matter resolved.”

It was apparently not resolved to McHenry’s satisfaction, as she then initiated litigation in December of 2019 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, adding retaliation and gender discrimination to her list of complaints against the network.

Mediaite also cited information from the Daily Beast suggesting that two sources close to the situation revealed that the settlement reached between McHenry and Fox News likely includes an undisclosed cash settlement as well as a nondisclosure agreement.

Upon coming to mutually agreeable terms, McHenry issued a statement saying, “I am very proud to have stood up for my rights and hope that I have empowered other women to do the same.”

“Although I fully stand by the truth of my allegations, I am pleased to put this matter behind me and move forward with my career,” she added.

For its part, the network also expressed satisfaction with the outcome, telling The Hill in a statement, “While Fox News is confident it would have prevailed in the lawsuit, we are pleased that we have been able to resolve this matter without further litigation.”

Hopefully all parties involved can put the regrettable circumstances behind them and move forward in a professional and productive manner, wherever their careers may take them.
