Bidens raked in 6-figure income, donated less than 3% to charity in 2021, tax returns show

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden earned more than $600,000 in 2021 and gave away less than 3 percent of their income to charity, according to tax returns released by the first couple on Friday.

Together, the Bidens reported earning an adjusted gross income of $610,702 last year and paying $150,439, or 24.6 percent, in federal income tax, the returns showed.

The president and first lady also paid $30,765 in Delaware state income tax, while Jill Biden paid $2,721 in Virginia state income tax.

The Bidens said they had contributed a total of $17,394 to 10 different charities last year — roughly 2.8 percent of their income.

“With this release, the President has shared a total of 24 years of tax returns with the American public, once again demonstrating his commitment to being transparent with the American people about the finances of the commander in chief,” the White House said in a statement.

But according to Fox News, “The poorest Americans were far more generous than either couple.”

“According to 2016 data from the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, the average charitable deduction for those making between $500,000 and $2 million is 3.1% of adjusted gross income. Filers earning between $100,000 and $500,000 donate 2.9%,” the outlet reported.

Meanwhile, the average charitable deduction for those earning between $50,000 and $100,000 was 4.5 percent of adjusted gross income, and it jumped to 8.4 percent for those earning under $50,000.

According to the New York Post, the Bidens earned more money but donated less to charity than they had the previous year.

In 2020, the outlet said, the couple reported earning $607,336 and contributing $30,704 to charity.

Also Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff released their 2021 tax returns.

“The Vice President and the Second Gentleman reported federal adjusted gross income of $1,655,563,” the White House said.

“They paid $523,371 in federal income tax, amounting to a 2021 effective federal income tax rate of 31.6 percent,” the administration added.
