Biden-Harris admin recommends increasing oil leasing fees amid nationwide gas price crisis

Politics aside, the checking accounts of millions of Americans are taking a collective beating right now due to inflation and supply chain issues that have spiked the prices of nearly everything needed to survive, including gasoline costs.

But according to Breitbart, President Joe Biden and his administration just made perhaps the most ridiculous move in the middle of a dire energy crisis, as the outlet reported that the Biden-Harris administration is now recommending increasing the price of oil leasing fees on federal lands by nearly 50%, from 12.5% to 18.5%, which would undoubtedly make the current situation much worse than it already is.

As Breitbart noted, such an increase would directly contradict promises recently made by the administration regarding the lowering of gas prices. That’s not to mention the predicted skyrocketing cost to heat U.S. homes in what could be a brutal, record-setting winter.

Why would they take what clearly seems to be a counterproductive action at the current time?

According to The New York Times, the staggering price increase would result in “$2.5 billion in new revenue by the end of the decade,” which seems like a poor trade-off considering what Americans currently experiencing.

More likely the reason lies in politics, as making the move would undoubtedly appease the Democratic base, and given Biden’s embarrassingly low polling numbers, is a minor victory that the administration would desperately want.

The move shouldn’t come as a surprise, really, as it was on day one of his presidency that Biden made clear he is set to wage war against the fossil fuel industry, starting at the time by eliminating the possibility of the Keystone XL pipeline project.

“Biden also rejoined to Paris Climate Accords and is conducting an environmental regulatory review of repairs instituted by the Trump administration that protected American energy independence,” Breitbart noted.

It’s truly a shame, and perplexing, that the Biden-Harris administration would make such a radical move, when they know good and well that kitchen table issues, like gas prices, completely transcend political leanings when it’s time to cast a ballot. Hopefully, they’ll soon regret such a recommendation.
