Amid an embarrassing media kerfuffle in which she was spotted vacationing maskless in Florida over the holiday period, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) announced on Sunday that she tested positive for COVID-19, as the Washington Examiner reports.
Word of the lawmaker’s health status came from a statement issued by her office, in which it was also revealed that not only had the congresswoman been fully vaccinated, she also received a coronavirus booster jab earlier in the Fall.
According to the official communication, Ocasio-Cortez was recovering at home and has been experiencing symptoms of the illness, though it remained unclear whether they were considered mild, moderate, or severe.
The COVID-19 diagnosis came on the heels of a recent controversy in which the legislator was seen gallivanting around Miami sans facial covering – even paying a boisterous visit to a crowded drag bar – and making no obvious effort to maintain the sort of social distancing or other mitigation measures she and her colleagues on the left have insisted of others for nearly two years.
After being publicly called out for her “do as I say, not as I do” mode of conduct, Ocasio-Cortez oddly attributed the backlash to what she views as some kind of Republican sexual obsession with her.
“It’s starting to get old ignoring the very obvious, strange, and deranged sexual frustrations that underpin the Republican fixation on me, women, & LGBT+ people in general. These people clearly need therapy, won’t do it, and use politics as their outlet instead. It’s really weird,” mused Ocasio-Cortez, who also contended that anyone who disagrees with her actions or her politics are just “mad they can’t date me.”
Reaction on the right to the congresswoman’s narcissistic observations was swift and sure, with journalist Caleb Hull remarking, “AOC tested positive for COVID-19 because the virus just wants to sleep with her.”
Radio host and OutKick founder Clay Travis joked, “AOC, who is double vaccinated and boosted, tests positive for covid. She’ll be perfectly fine because she’s young and healthy, but she was just too hot for covid too resist.”
In declaring her COVID-positive status to the world, Ocasio-Cortez made sure to urge “everyone to get their booster and follow all CDC guidance,” though given how thoroughly she has discredited herself on this and countless other topics, it is unclear why anyone would readily take her advice.
