Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls out Kamala Harris

Vice President Kamal Harris has lost the support of some progressives with her plan to stem the flow of illegal immigration, according to a report in The Daily Caller.

High profile progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) called out the vice president in a recent tweet after Harris told Guatamalians “do not come” to the border between the  United States and Mexico.

“I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come. Do not come,” Harris said during a news conference with Guatemalan president Alejandro Giammattei.

Harris chose to travel to Central America in an attempt to get at the “root cause” of illegal immigration instead of taking the traditional method of stopping those from other countries from entering by building up the border.

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted the video along with her disappointment with the VP’s choice of message to the people of Guatemala.

“This is disappointing to see,” the New York representative said. “First, seeking asylum at any US border is a 100% legal method of arrival.

“Second, the US spent decades contributing to regime change and destabilization in Latin America. We can’t help set someone’s house on fire and then blame them for fleeing.”

In a move that has become familiar to those who follow the fiery Democrat Ocasio-Cortez turned the blame on America for the culture that lead to migrants flooding northward from countries like Guatemala.

“It would be helpful if the US would finally acknowledge its contributions to destabilization and regime change in the region,” Ocasio-Cortez said. Doing so can help us change US foreign policy, trade policy, climate policy, & carceral border policy to address causes of mass displacement & migration.
